The big picture first: what kind of lane is Foshan to Jakarta?
Foshan is not a seaport itself — cargo moves by barge or truck to Nansha or Shekou and loads onto the ocean vessel there. This is the most concentrated source region in China for building materials and furniture exported to Indonesia. Barge connections are mature, but you must leave room in the schedule for the land leg plus vessel loading.
On the Jakarta side, cargo is discharged at Tanjung Priok (terminals: JICT / KOJA / TPS / NPCT1). Indonesia's largest gateway port — roughly half of the country's imports enter through here. Customs scrutiny is strictest at this port and inspection and "red-light period" risk is most concentrated here, which is why pre-shipment verification pays off most at Jakarta.
On delivery coverage, Short-haul delivery to West Java, Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) and the Bandung direction. For cargo bound for Central Java and further east, use Semarang instead of routing through Jakarta.
Origin port side: terminals, carriers and transit time
For exports from Foshan to Indonesia, the usual loading terminals are Via Nansha / transshipment via Shekou. The main cargo types in Foshan are Ceramics, sanitary ware, aluminum profiles, doors and windows, furniture (China's building-material and furniture industry belt) — regulation and duty rates for these goods vary widely in Indonesia, so we recommend checking each HS code before shipping.
| Loading terminal | Discharge terminal |
|---|---|
| Via Nansha / transshipment via Shekou | Tanjung Priok (JICT / KOJA / TPS / NPCT1) |
| Transit time (reference) | Carriers commonly calling | Typical cargo types |
|---|---|---|
| 7–12 days (including transshipment; subject to current sailing schedules and terminal notices) | COSCO · OOCL · MSC · EVERGREEN | Ceramics, sanitary ware, aluminum profiles, doors and windows, furniture (China's building-material and furniture industry belt) |
We handle D/O release directly with 13 carriers (COSCO, EVERGREEN, OOCL, MAERSK, MSC, CMA CGM, HAPAG-LLOYD, ONE, YANG MING, PIL, ZIM, HMM, WAN HAI) — from booking to D/O release nothing is handed to a third party, cutting out intermediate steps.
After arrival in Jakarta: how customs clearance works
Once the cargo reaches Tanjung Priok, the next steps are D/O release → declaration filing (PIB / BC 2.0) → duty and tax payment → inspection or release → container pickup and delivery. Across these five steps the riskiest part is not transport but documentation and classification: a single digit wrong in the HS code, digits or consistency of NPWP / NIB that do not match up, or a required Lartas permit that was never obtained will leave the container sitting at the terminal while demurrage and detention burn by the day.
- Licensed PPJK in house: customs clearance on the Indonesian side is handled by our own licensed PPJK team, not subcontracted in between.
- Both ports handled directly: cargo can be discharged and cleared at either Jakarta or Semarang, working from whichever discharge port is closest.
- Pre-shipment verification: HS classification is cross-checked against INSW / BTKI, Lartas status is checked, and the digits of the tax ID are confirmed — keeping risk out before the cargo ships.
- Tax planning: ACFTA (FORM E) and RCEP are compared line by line, so you do not pay duty you could have saved.
The 2 pitfalls most easily hit on Foshan to Jakarta
- Barge plus ocean vessel means two connecting legs — if one is missed in between, the whole shipment slides. Work the cut-off backwards from the barge schedule, not from the vessel schedule.
- Ceramics and sanitary ware are a heavily regulated category in Indonesia. Sort out the SNI / LS requirements before export instead of discovering at destination that a permit is needed.
How the costs break down (no invented numbers, just structure)
The total cost of a Foshan to Jakarta shipment falls into two parts:
- China side: trucking, export declaration, terminal handling and ocean freight (charged as actually incurred, by container type and carrier).
- Indonesia side: import duty (BM), VAT (PPN), income tax (PPh 22), PIB filing and EDI, port handling charges, D/O release fee, and the service fee for customs clearance plus delivery.
Of these, duty and tax are calculated on the actual cargo value and the HS codes on that specific shipment. We will not give you a made-up "all-in, tax-included" lump sum — for every item that can be calculated, you can first run it yourself with the clearance and delivery quote tool and the duty and tax estimator.
